Northport/Cow Harbor Soccer Club
EJ Schwarz has coached youth soccer on Long Island for over twenty-five years. Most of her coaching experience has been with the Northport/Cow Harbor Soccer Club. Some of the teams that she has coached have consisted of the Northport/Cow Harbor Piranha, which won two national championships, the Northport/Cow Harbor Rush and the Northport/Cow Harbor Extreme.
EJ began her career in the early 80’s when she coached her children in the Northport Youth Center League. As her children grew, she held many volunteer positions as team administrator for Long Island Select and local club teams and as an LIJSL games supervisor. In her early education years, EJ attended many coaching schools in which she was the lone female in the class. She began her coaching with the Northport/Cow Harbor travel club in which she has been club registrar for the past twelve years.
As EJ grew as a coach she began educating at the roots of player development. She has been the director of training and development for the Northport/Cow Harbor club for the past six years. She has run the Northport/Cow Harbor Youth soccer camp for the past six years and started the developmental U-9 program four years ago. EJ has successfully utilized the proceeds of the summer camp to run a developmental training program for Northport players ages 9 to 11. This is truly an example of giving back to the game and giving back to the kids.
During her coaching career EJ has been recognized many times as a standout in the world of coaching. Her teams have won numerous LIJSL sportsmanship awards. In 2000 she was recognized by the women’s sports foundation as their youth coach of the year. In 2003 she was recognized as US Youth Soccer’s Region I girls coach of the year.
EJ’s expertise is also shared with athletes at local high schools. She has coached soccer at St. Anthony’s High School for the past eight years and girls lacrosse for the past six years. Prior to St. Anthony’s, EJ coached basketball and soccer at St. Dominic’s High School for four years.
EJ has volunteered her time over the past twenty-five years for the good of the game, the good of soccer on Long Island and the good of the kids. That is truly EJ’s legacy. She is first and foremost interested in assisting young people to mature, grow and love the game.
